Peter Riedler wird neuer Rektor der Universität Graz
Der Universitätsrat wählte am 23. Juni 2022 Dr. Peter Riedler zum künftigen Rektor der Universität Graz. „Ich freue mich sehr über die Wahl und das mir entgegengebrachte Vertrauen. Ich bin mir der verantwortungsvollen Aufgabe bewusst und werde mich weiterhin mit voller Kraft für die Universität Graz einsetzen“, so Riedler, der seit Dezember 2021 das Amt bereits interimistisch ausübt. Die neue Funktionsperiode startet am 1. Oktober 2022 und dauert vier Jahre.

Peter Riedler wurde 1969 in Graz geboren, ist in einem wissenschaftsnahen Umfeld aufgewachsen, und maturierte 1987 an einem neusprachlichen Gymnasium. Nach dem Studium der Rechtswissenschaften an der Universität Graz, einem Studienaufenthalt an der University of Wales in Cardiff und einem anschließenden Postgraduate-Studium am Bologna Center der Johns Hopkins University folgten berufliche Stationen im Europäischen Parlament in Brüssel und im Büro des Wirtschafts- und Finanzlandesrates in der Steiermärkischen Landesregierung in Graz. 1999 promovierte Riedler an der Universität Graz mit einer Dissertation im Bereich Völkerrecht und Europarecht. Von 2002 bis 2007 war er in Wien im Kabinett des Bundeskanzlers als Berater für Finanzen, Wirtschaft und Forschung tätig. Es folgten mehrere Jahre als Director of Public Affairs und Assistent des CEO und Eigentümers beim weltweit größten privaten Entwickler von Antriebstechnologie, der AVL List GmbH in Graz, bevor er 2011 zum Vizerektor für Finanzen, Ressourcen und Standortentwicklung, ab 2019 auch für Personal, an der Universität Graz bestellt wurde. Seit Dezember 2021 ist Peter Riedler geschäftsführender Rektor. Er ist u. a. Mitglied des österreichischen Fiskalrates, Vorstand des Wirtschaftsforschungsinstitutes Eco Austria und Mitglied des Internationalen Beirates der Universität Helsinki.
Peter Riedler will be the new Rector of the University of Graz
On 23 June 2022 the University Council elected Dr Peter Riedler as the future Rector of the University of Graz. "I am very pleased about the election and the trust placed in me. I am aware of the responsible task and will continue to devote all my energy to the University of Graz," said Riedler, who has already held the office on an interim basis since December 2021. The new term of office starts on 1 October 2022 and lasts four years.

Peter Riedler was born in Graz in 1969, grew up in a science-related environment, and graduated from grammar school in 1987. After studying law at the University of Graz, a study stay at the University of Wales in Cardiff and subsequent postgraduate studies at the Bologna Center of Johns Hopkins University, he worked in the European Parliament in Brussels and in the office of the Economic and Financial Provincial Councillor in the Styrian Provincial Government in Graz. In 1999, Riedler received his doctorate from the University of Graz for his dissertation in the field of international and European law. From 2002 to 2007 he worked in Vienna in the Cabinet of the Federal Chancellor as Advisor for Finance, Economics and Research. Several years as Director of Public Affairs and Assistant to the CEO and owner at the world's largest private developer of drive technology, AVL List GmbH, in Graz followed, before he was appointed Vice Rector for Financial Affairs, Resources and Location Development, and from 2019 also for Human Resources, at the University of Graz in 2011. Peter Riedler has been acting Rector since December 2021. Among other things, he is a member of the Austrian Fiscal Council, a board member of the economic research institute Eco Austria and a member of the International Advisory Board of the University of Helsinki.
